Edenhope is a rural town in western Victoria, positioned on the southern shore of Lake Wallace and approximately 30 kilometres from the South Australian border. It serves as an important community and service centre for the surrounding farms and smaller settlements of the West Wimmera.
The district forms part of the traditional country of the Jadawadjali people, whose cultural connections with the region’s lakes, wetlands, plants, wildlife and surrounding landscapes extend across generations. These waterways remain important environmental and cultural features of western Victoria.
European pastoral settlement developed during the nineteenth century, with sheep grazing and later grain production becoming central to the district’s economy. Edenhope grew as a supply, administrative and social centre for rural properties spread across the surrounding plains.
