Melrose is a historic country town positioned beneath Mount Remarkable in South Australia’s Southern Flinders Ranges. Surrounded by mountain slopes, native bushland and agricultural country, it serves as an important southern gateway to the broader Flinders Ranges region.
Established during the nineteenth century, Melrose is regarded as the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. The discovery of copper helped drive its early development, while farming, transport and services for the surrounding district contributed to the town’s long-term survival.
