Menindee (NSW)
Menindee is a historic outback town beside the Darling River, also known as the Baaka, in far western New South Wales. Surrounded by river country, red earth and the vast Menindee Lakes system, it presents a striking meeting point between inland water and the arid Australian landscape.
Established during the nineteenth century, Menindee is one of the oldest European settlements in western New South Wales. The town developed as an important river port and service centre for pastoral stations, travellers and communities throughout the surrounding district.
Menindee occupies a significant place in Australian exploration history. Burke and Wills and the Victorian Exploring Expedition reached the town in 1860, using it as an important staging point before continuing north into more remote country.
The Menindee Lakes system is the defining natural feature of the region. Its interconnected lakes and water-storage infrastructure support town water supplies, wildlife habitat, fishing, boating and recreation, although water levels can change considerably according to river flows and water-management conditions.

Sunset Strip and Walk of Fame
Sunset Strip is a small lakeside settlement on the northern shore of Lake Menindee, approximately 20 kilometres from town. Known for its expansive sunsets, the community also features a locally created Walk of Fame celebrating identities and stories connected with the district.
