Myponga (SA)
Myponga is a small rural town on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula,
situated among rolling farmland between the Mount Lofty Ranges and the
coast. Located approximately 60 kilometres south of Adelaide, it provides
a convenient base for exploring Myponga Reservoir, Myponga Beach, Mount
Compass, Sellicks Hill and the southern Fleurieu countryside.
The surrounding district has long been associated with agriculture,
including dairy farming, grazing, orchards and berry production. Its
productive rural landscape continues to support local growers, food
producers and visitor experiences that showcase the produce and
agricultural character of the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Myponga Reservoir is one of the area’s defining landmarks. Constructed
across the Myponga River, the reservoir supplies drinking water to parts
of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Public access initiatives have also allowed
visitors to enjoy designated walking and cycling trails, reservoir views
and the surrounding natural landscape.
The nearby coastline adds another dimension to the region. Myponga Beach
is a secluded coastal settlement set between steep hills and the sea,
while Sellicks Beach and Silver Sands Beach offer broad coastal views,
exposed cliffs and distinctive geological features.
Myponga and Mount Compass also provide access to breweries, orchards,
berry farms, local food experiences and country hospitality. Together,
these destinations combine agricultural production, natural scenery and
small-business experiences within a relatively compact section of the
Fleurieu Peninsula.
ShowcasingOz TV will document Myponga’s rural character, reservoir,
coastline, local producers and surrounding communities as part of its
national filming journey. Following our visit, this page will be expanded
with original photography, professionally produced video and additional
information gathered on location.
