Boomer Beach
An exposed surf beach between Victor Harbor and Port Elliot, known for powerful Southern Ocean swells and broad coastal views.
Victor Harbor is a major coastal destination on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, approximately 80 kilometres south of Adelaide. Set beside Encounter Bay, the city combines beaches, dramatic headlands, historic streets and a working visitor economy shaped by the Southern Ocean.
The area is part of the traditional Country of the Ramindjeri and broader Ngarrindjeri people, whose connection with the coast, sea and Kondoli whale story remains central to the region’s identity. European settlement began during the nineteenth century as whaling, farming and maritime trade developed around Encounter Bay.
Victor Harbor became an important port linked with the Murray River trade. Goods travelled by rail from the river port of Goolwa before being moved across the causeway to ships at Granite Island. The horse-drawn tramway, railway heritage and foreshore precinct preserve important parts of that transport history.
Granite Island, Rosetta Head, Waitpinga and the rugged coastline west of the city provide sweeping views, walking opportunities and places to observe seabirds and seasonal whale activity. Sheltered Encounter Bay also supports boating, swimming and wildlife tours.
The wider district includes vineyards, dairy producers, distilleries, museums, galleries and family attractions. Victor Harbor’s substantial accommodation and hospitality sector makes the city a practical base for exploring the southern Fleurieu without shifting into neighbouring town areas.
ShowcasingOz TV will document Victor Harbor’s coastal landscapes, Indigenous and maritime heritage, visitor experiences and local businesses as part of its national filming journey. Following our visit, this page will be expanded with original photography, professionally produced video and further information gathered on location.
Victor Harbor and its surrounding district offer wildlife encounters, museums, galleries, regional produce, guided coastal experiences and family activities.
